Yogi Chand BA (Hons) VI Degree
International Instructor & Examiner
International Class A Umpire

Founder member of England ITF

My first experience of Taekwon-Do was at Hull College of Further Education in September 1988. However, I was to officially start training on June 6th 1989. On 4th February 1995, I established my own school in Cambridge.
In 1998 I received the Taekwon-Do Excellence Award for Instructor Achievements. I also received many competition awards as a coloured belt during this period, and continued competing as a Black Belt until October 2001.
Competition achievements were under the Original General Choi  ITF and against the following Associations: TAGB, UKGT, GTI, UKTA and ITF ENGLAND. I have also competed against IMPACT, IMPERIAL, PUMA, BUTF and UKTF. In my final year of competing, gold medals were achieved at the British, Scottish, English, Welsh and ITF England tournaments.

Since competing I have attended a further seven International Courses taking the total to 10, seven of which were under the instruction of Founding Father Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi. The others were under the instruction of Grand Master Ree, Master Tran and our current President, Grand Master Choi Jung Hwa, respectively.
In 2002 Master Bos certified me to the level of Class A Umpire under the AETF. I re-qualified as a Class A Umpire under Master Galarraga VIII Degree in February 2006.
Initially I attained my First and Second Degree under Buinder Sahota V and whilst under intense instruction from Master Orello Ellis VIII, I took my Third Degree with Grand Master Ree IX. This period was my most successful as a competitor. Master Sutherland VII was then to grade me for my Fourth Degree and under Master Nichols VIII, Master Oldham VIII and Master Hogan VII, I obtained my Fifth Degree Black Belt. My most recent grading took place in London under the Guidance of Master Nicholls VIII and a panel of nine other senior instructors, it was here that I received my Sixth Degree Black Belt.
During my TKD career I have always prided myself on training on a regular basis to maintain a high standard for my students to follow. Currently Master Trevor Nicholls VIII Degree, Secretary General of the ITF, is mentoring me and has been instructing me personally since 2004 for which I am both privileged and grateful.
The World Championships in Poland 2003 gave me an opportunity representing Grenade as a National Coach. I have had students win medals in all disciplines spanning the Worlds, Europeans, Nationals, Regionals and Club events.
Prior to becoming an Association, I was Secretary to ITF England and Welsh congress representative.
The amount of people wishing to participate in competitions (Worldwide) has declined over the last decade. The original teachings look upon the "Sport" aspect of Taekwon-Do as an infringement to the ethical teachings. We aim to deliver a balance that encompasses both elements with a true ideological stance.
